Beautiful Girlhood & The Companion Guide

Need More Inspiration?

Homeschool groups, Churches and Sunday Schools from around the country are using Beautiful Girlhood and The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood!

Homeschool Girls Groups

A few years ago I was blessed to have the opportunity to participate in a Beautiful Girlhood study. We had a group of about 7 homeschool girls between the ages of 9-14 and their mothers. We appointed one afternoon each month to meet, usually 3-4 hours. The girls provided treats to be shared at the end of the meeting. The hostess supplied the beverages.

Before the meeting, the girls and their mothers were required to read four chapters from Beautiful Girlhood and do four chapters in The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood. The meeting was conducted much like a book club where a facilitator was appointed, and the chapter was reviewed and discussed using the notes taken in the Companion Guide. Mothers and daughters were allowed to share thoughts, insights, and challenges they encountered in the study.

Church

A Lady called me from Texas and explained to me how their church did this study. Mothers and Daughters appointed a night out where they would meet at church. They called it Girls Night Out! Together they would watch as someone preformed a skit, do some craft, or listened to someone teaching the topic that they were going to discuss in the chapter. Then the mothers and daughters would break away and read and discuss the chapter on their own. Later they would rejoin the group for the Bible Study. As soon as this was over, tea and refreshments were served. This way they could enjoy the group while be taught by their own mom.

Sunday School

Because Sunday school usually lasts between 45 minutes to 1 hour, some changes may need to be made in the usual program. It takes approximately 10-25 minutes to read a chapter and about 30 minutes to do the discussion questions and Bible study.

  • Plan 1: Read the chapter from Beautiful Girlhood aloud to the girls and complete The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood in class.

  • Plan 2:At home your students can read the chapter from Beautiful Girlhood ahead of time with their mother and The Companion Guide can be discussed and completed during Sunday School time.

  • Plan 3:The selected chapter from Beautiful Girlhood can be read to the girls at Sunday school time and The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood can be done at home with their mom.

Great Idea!

One Sunday School Teacher allowed each girl to created and decorate her own special bag to keep and carry the two books to class and home. What a great way to individualize the process and make it fun for the girls!
